Alex is a PhD candidate studying U.S. History with a minor in Mexican American Studies. His dissertation, “Field of Sueños: Becoming Mexican American through the National Pastime,” focuses on the use of baseball by Mexican Americans as a tool to navigate cultural identity, community formation, gender, class, and nationalism during the first half of the twentieth century. His work has appeared in print with the Journal of American Ethnic History, Journal of Arizona History, Journal of Sport History, and The American Historian. He has a BA in History, MEd in Teaching and Teacher Education, and an MA in History, all from the University of Arizona.
Alex holds a professional role on campus as the Associate Director of Admissions for the W.A. Franke Honors College, where he has worked since 2017.
