I am a historian of the modern Middle East. Within this regional specialization, my work has focused on the intersections of social, environmental, technological, and medical aspects of the late Ottoman Empire. I have taught UA courses on Ottoman History, The History of Muslim Societies, World History, the Environmental History of the Middle East, and the History of Epidemics. Forthcoming projects include expanding and adapting my dissertation into a monograph, as well as a new project concerning the local effects on Anatolia of the global cholera pandemics of the nineteenth century.
