History Graduate Students Provide Mentorship to Nogales High School Students in Collaboration with The UArizona Library
On September 16th, Department of History graduate students Abby Gibbons, Don Unger, Sam Goodrich, Angela Corsa, Catalina Rodriguez, and recent graduate Ruth Oropeza volunteered by helping International Baccalaureate students from Nogales High School with history research projects on the UArizona campus. An event made possible by the amazing work of Mary Feeney and Jennifer Church-Duran at the UArizona Library, history alum and teacher Luke Brannon, and Department of History Professor Susan Crane.
Jennifer Church-Duran from the UArizona Library shared how the graduate students, "...worked tirelessly with the students, making use of the whiteboards, displaying some items to all the groups, even taking students into the stacks to find books and photograph needed pages..." In addition, Jennifer Church-Duran noted after the session how the Nogales High School students,"...Expressed incredible gratitude to the graduate students – for their time, attention and expertise. I would like to do the same – they truly went above and beyond to make this a meaningful learning experience for the students."
The Department of History is proud of the efforts displayed by its graduate students and looks forward to future collaborations!
