We invite you to join us as we make history.
The PHC offers opportunities for members of the public to learn about and experience history in the making. When you attend a PHC-sponsored event you might share a family recipe and learn of its connections to our shared culinary pasts. You might take a walk on campus and hear of its long and storied botanical heritage. You may participate in crowdsourcing of material artifacts for a collaborative history of Tucson. In the PHC maker space you may learn of the importance of objects to the understanding of history and you may learn how to “read” photographs from the past. The PHC also exists in the virtual realm and there you may take a virtual tour of ancient sites of worship, hear a scholarly talk about the vibrant history of jazz in the Southwest, or visit the Library of Congress to explore its vast collections. The possibilities are endless!

Our Physical Space
Our MakerSpace is our physical location where we create, share, and discuss public history projects.
Room 406 on the fourth floor of the César E. Chávez Building, 1110 James E. Rogers Way on the UA campus.
In the MakerSpace, members of the public, faculty, students, and staff gather to meet new people, to create, to collaborate, to share ideas and to learn new analog and digital tools and processes for making history!
Intellectual Commitment
The practice of history is never an individual enterprise but it can be rather private. The PHC wants to change that. We have an intellectual commitment to working alongside members of the university community and the broader public of southern Arizona to make the making history (the practice, the process, and the products) more public.
Ethical Commitment
The PHC is committed to a practice of history that sees the public as producers of history. As such we are committed to ensuring that the projects we sponsor and partner with are not extractive or exploitive in any way.
Partnerships
The Public History Collaborative is also mobile. We go to individuals and organizations outside of the university to engage in making history. We would love to form partnerships that duplicate the maker space and workshops in other settings. If you are interested in partnering, contact the PHC at phc@arizona.edu
