When
5 – 6 p.m., April 23, 2025
You're invited! "The Food of the Gods: Magical and Medicinal Histories of Chocolate"
Join us for this compelling lecture by Dr. Ryan Kashanipour (UA Dept. of History), sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America (Tucson chapter)! Dr. Kashanipour will reveal how a substance consumed in rituals by Mesoamerican elites became an object of debate among an array of early modern Spanish priests, physicians, and botanists, guiding us through the evidence in printed recipe books, botanical manuscripts, and Inquisition denunciations and investigations.
Time and place: Wednesday, April 23, at 5 pm in Haury 215.
All are welcome!
