Come to a special screening of The Apology Times, a short documentary filmed in São Paulo by Thatcher Warrick Hess, a UA History BA alum, and current MA in Journalism.

This interdisciplinary, multimedia documentary explores the ethnolinguistic vitality of the Japanese-Brazilian community and how language is represented in media across São Paulo and Tokyo. It centers on the creation and aftermath of the Brazilian government's official apology for past discrimination, as reported by Diário Brasil Nippou — the last Japanese-language print newspaper in Brazil.

The film runs approximately 50 minutes and is presented in Portuguese, Japanese, and English, with English subtitles. Filmed with support from the Tinker Foundation.  Screening will be in the Education Building rm 353.
