About Cristina Urias-Espinoza

I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Latin American History at the University of Arizona.  Before moving to Tucson, I received my Bachelor in Architecture and a M.A. in Historic Preservation in Mexico.  My master thesis: Arquitectura Misional de la Compañía de Jesús en la Antigua Provincia de Sinaloa, siglos XVI-XVIII received a mention of honor at the national competition held by the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia, México, Premio Francisco de la Maza, in 2011.

My dissertation project focuses on the architecture and urbanism of the U.S. Colonies established in Northwestern Mexico during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. I am particularly interested in the study of historic urban environments, at the U.S.-Mexico borderlands and northwestern Mexico.
