Western History Association Annual Conference

October 17-20:  The University of Arizona History Department will be well represented at the Western History Association Annual Conference in San Antonio, October 17-20. This year’s theme: “Re-imagining Race and Ethnicity in the West” will be addressed by the following faculty.

  • Professors Erika Pérez and Katherine Morrissey will be part of the CWWH Roundtable, “Monuments, Memorials and Memory: Marking the Intersections of Gender in the Monumental West”
  • Doctoral candidate Lora Key will present a paper on “Fighting for Citizenship: Mexican American Identity and Patriotism in the World War II Era”
  • Prof. Roger Nichols will be Chair and Commentator for the session on “Native Protest and Dynamics in Lands, Health and Education”   
  • Prof. Katherine Morrissey will present a paper on “Telling Plant Tales in a Borderlands: The Boojum Tree”

  Also active at the conference will be alumni of our graduate program, including:

  • Prof. Maritza de la Trinidad (University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley)
  • Prof. Kerwin Klein (University of California, Berkeley), 
  • Prof. Katrina Jagodinsky (University of Nebraska)
