Course Description:

In this course, the social and political history of Britain will be studied through the lens of gender and sexuality. Throughout the course, we will continue to ask ourselves how a focus on changing gender and sexual norms can provide insight into other areas of society and culture. How does the study of women’s work contribute to our understanding of the Industrial Revolution? How do changing views of homosexuality relate to colonization and other processes? How do dramatic shifts in gender norms reflect the upheaval of the First and Second World Wars? Rather than basing grades on tests, this class focuses heavily on developing critical thinking and reading skills through analysis and discussion of primary source texts.
